Every figure on this page is worked out from the inputs you enter, by the method stated below it. Enpso publishes no industry benchmark and no normative engagement score: the defaults are a worked example to replace with your own numbers, and what a good result looks like is your own trend.
Employee engagement survey results arrive as a spreadsheet of averages and a deck, and that is where most programmes quietly stop. This page is about the part after: how to read a result so it names something you can act on, which cuts are worth making and which ones identify people, what to do with the comments, and how to report back so the next round's response rate holds. Enpso publishes no benchmark, so nothing here tells you whether your number is good; it tells you how to find out what it is about.

Cut by team before you look at the company number
The company average is the least actionable figure in the file, because nothing is done at company level. Start from the team readings, find the two that are furthest from the rest in either direction, and read those. The good outlier is as informative as the bad one and nobody ever asks about it.
Set a minimum reporting size and hold it
Below a threshold, usually five to seven responses, a team result identifies individuals and reporting it destroys the confidentiality you promised. Set the number before you see the data, apply it without exceptions, and tell people what it is, because the credibility of every future round rests on it.
Read the comments last, and in bulk
Free text is where the actual information is and also where confirmation bias does its worst work. Read every comment in one sitting, after the numbers, grouping as you go rather than hunting for quotes that support a conclusion you already reached in the deck.
Employee engagement survey results: common questions
What response rate should we expect?
Your own last round is the only comparison worth making, and the honest driver of it is whether anything visibly happened after the previous one. A first survey in a company that has never run one often does well; a third survey after two rounds of silence does not.
Should we share the full results with everybody?
Share more than feels comfortable and less than identifies anybody. The pattern that works is the company picture, the team picture to that team, and a plain statement of what will be done. Withholding results is read as bad news whether or not it is.
Is our score good?
We will not tell you, because we would be making it up. Enpso publishes no industry benchmark and no normative score; the comparison that means something is your own previous round, on the same questions, with the same population.

An engagement result is only worth what happens after it, and the arithmetic most companies never do is the cost of asking: at a hundred people answering eighteen questions four times a year, the survey alone consumes real paid time before anybody has read a word of it, which is the number this hub's free planner puts in front of you.
